Exquisite Dining Only at Solstice by Ilustrado

IMG_20170419_205955

I got invited to check out this new restaurant in Rockwell, by the name of Solstice Bistro & Boulangerie. By the looks of it, it won’t be difficult to discern that this is one of what’s seemingly lined up in the upscale list of restaurants you can see in the area.

About: Solstice by Ilustrado at 8 Rockwell

Solstice Bistro and Boulangerie is now called Solstice by Ilustrado, a merger of two great culinary brands offering modern continental and heritage Filipino-Spanish cuisine. This is coupled with a well-curated selection of wines and spirits located at the ground floor of 8 Rockwell, one of Makati’s chic urban communities.

IMG_20170419_223010IMG_20170419_223034

A merger of two well-loved culinary brands.

Solstice draws inspiration from the success of One Way Restaurant, once touted as among Makati’s best-kept secrets. Ilustrado, on the other hand, brings with it its rich history and heritage, with its status as one of the well-established household dining destinations in Manila’s famed walled city.

The new management has taken this as a challenge as they reinvented the restaurant’s menu just this year adding new recipes and covering multiple cuisines.

They also complemented the refreshed menu with a selection of fine wines carefully chosen to complete the gastronomic experience.

I love their interiors. The design has a modern feel, and the cascade of a photo-history kind of brings back memories people shared via good food and company.

I highly imagine this place hosting to close family gatherings, reunions, friend get-togethers and even dates! The ambiance will surely make you feel first-class!

IMG_20170419_210210

And oh, the food! How do I start with this?

Well, first is, this wasn’t like the normal food tasting slash food blog event I’ve been to. We were all sitting in a long table, and there were food servers who would put some amount on our plates, and in that way we could somehow tell them if the serving was too much or enough.

Because they never give small ones! I was literally overwhelmed with the idea that I can talk to the servers and ask what is in the dish, and if it was spicy, or if it’s seafood, pork, vegetable, or whatever.

I felt like Rose Dewitt-Bukater (Kate Winslet) in Titanic! Remember that scene?

So here is the mouth-watering feast we had.

IMG_20170419_210300

Kapampangan Sisig

I love how flavorful this is, and the crunchyness made devouring it a more fun experience.

The Sisig Kapampangan which is a refreshing departure from the mayonnaise and egg laden dish. This one is cooked with their home-made liver spread gravy and topped with chopped red and green chili. Of special mention is that the sisig consists of crispy pigs ears, skin and mascara.

IMG_20170419_210317

Stuffed Chicken Ilustrado

Their take on Stuffed Chicken is wonderful, it tasted fairly well. Although it didn’t quite leave a remarkable impact, the chicken was rich and thick and something that is ideal to order at lunch.

IMG_20170419_210423

Serrano and Manchego Skewers with balsamic glaze

Aside from it looking fancy, I had an enjoyable time eating them. Mixing it together allows you to appreciate both distinct flavors.

IMG_20170419_210444

Pasta Aligue with Crispy Soft shell Crab

This is an interesting dish to include in any event I suppose. It’s fresh and modern! I believe if I were to conduct an event in Solstice, this is a must-order!

IMG_20170419_210459

Paella Ilustrado

I love how this is becomes a complete meal already! Among all the dishes served that night, this is probably my favorite! The taste is exquisite, and every spice is just shouting like crazy!

I think I quite had three servings of this! No judging!

IMG_20170419_210528

Callos Madrilena

I love this one! I had a great time savouring the spices. I would want to eat their version of Callos Madrilena with rice next time!

IMG_20170419_211958

Norwegian Salmon Ceviche Poke

I didn’t expect to adore this one! It really tasted healthy! I believe this dish is perfect for those who are on a strict diet! It’s a seafood-vegetable and fruit combo! What more could you ask for?

IMG_20170419_210549

Adobong Bagnet with Crab fat

Super sarap! Period!

IMG_20170419_211918

Shroom Pizza

This is also delicious, although I wanted more salt in it. The cheese melted perfectly, but I wished the salt balanced more with the cheese. The mushrooms were soft and easy to chew as well!

IMG_20170419_211932

Chorizo Pizza

It was delightful, because all the spices were just blended evenly and perfectly, and I never distinguished any spice that wasn’t right on its place.

IMG_20170419_211143

I forgot what this one is called, something with Lime or Lemongrass I think? But OMG. This one is so delicious, probably something I could order in Hogsmead.

IMG_20170419_211826IMG_20170419_211124IMG_20170419_210616IMG_20170419_212950

Mango Jubilee with Sampaguita Ice Cream

Have you ever tasted Sampaguita before? Now is your chance! Taste a flower like no other, and I promise, the taste will make you sing!

It’s nothing like any dessert you’ve tasted before, so when you visit Solstice by Ilustrado, this one should be part of your experience! Thank me after!

IMG_20170419_213752

Matcha Cookies and Cream

This dessert is a shocker for me. I am not a fan of Matcha, and these cookies are making me feel that I can convert already! Plus the cream tasted like a pure soul.

OMG. I hope it didn’t sound weird to you.

The cream tasted so innocent, very pure, creamy, and it matches the Matcha Cookies like destiny!

Taste Southeast Asia in Erwan Heussaff’s Pink Panda

I’ve been hearing a lot about Pink Panda, and how it became a household name in the list of great Southeast Asian food joints in Metro Manila. It is owned by Celebrity Influencer and Chef Erwan Heussaff, together with Hatch22 group (his other restaurant). It serves Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Chinese, and Filipino comfort food.

IMG_20170329_201040IMG_20170329_201052IMG_20170329_201106

No wonder the restaurant’s architecture is also a cornucopia of different influences and features from the menu’s origins in Southeast Asia. You definitely get that modern feeling coupled with the fear that this place may charge more than what you’re prepared to pay. Because the place looks damn expensive and classy!

IMG_20170329_201241

To appease your weary yet hungry hearts, please be pacified that Pink Panda has a reasonably-priced menu, and that’s one of the many reasons why you should visit them!

IMG_20170329_211715

We had the Lumpiang Shang Hang, and the pieces were generously stuffed with finger chilis, minced pork, and mint yoghurt. The finger chilis were a bit spicy for me, but I really liked the mint yoghurt, as it balances the whole taste. It was really delicious; although I must say if you’re not a fan of spicy food, better keep a glass of water nearby.

IMG_20170329_210002

Crispy Baby Squid was a surprising entrée! It was easy to chew and I can practically imagine having this over and over again!

IMG_20170329_212642

Mango and Catfish Salad is so refreshing! This is something I would love to eat while I’m in a resort or beach! The mango accents added a tropical feel to the whole dish!

IMG_20170329_211329

Pork and Shrimp Laksa was very flavorful. You just have to let it simmer down, because the spicy flavor and the hot temperature may not be the best combination for your tastebuds.

IMG_20170329_212119

Chicken and Dumpling Noodle was so soft and nice to chew. The flavor tasted very healthy too!

IMG_20170329_214543IMG_20170329_215251

Sisig Siopao was a big revelation too because I’ve never seen anything like this! And it’s not everyday you get to taste Sisig locked in a popular white Chinese bun! You have to see how the juice oozes out when you take a bite. It’s as though your eyes are already tasting them!

IMG_20170329_213551

We also had Pink Panda Pork Bun, and they’re super cute! It would be a perfect gift for Panda lovers!

IMG_20170329_212420

Chili Prawn Fried Dumpling wasn’t that spicy, and these will definitely tickle your tastebuds! I think sharing it with a group of friends would be sensational!

IMG_20170329_215647

IMG_20170329_214051

IMG_20170329_213224

IMG_20170329_215915IMG_20170329_221814

General P’s Chicken, Beef Rendang, Pad Thai and Panda Balls were perfectly cooked, seasoned with just the right amount of spices, and I can say that these dishes are delectable enough for you to make it a habit to visit Pink Panda!

IMG_20170329_212844IMG_20170329_210051IMG_20170329_203800

The menu is overflowing with such great food, it would definitely be fun to try the dishes three by three every visit!  Haha I hope that my previous sentence was understandable! 😀

IMG_20170329_204346

And plus, let’s not forget about the zesty drinks! Each drink has a distinct flavor of citrus and fruit, and it would be a nice addition to your dinner feast when you order one or two!

I was also blown away by how talented their chefs are because they practically serve the best cuisines in Asia – all in one place! Apart from Filipino food, of course, I am a big fan of Thai and Vietnamese food, considering I am not the spicy sort. There is just something special in their recipes that taste healthy and divine, which I don’t know what. All I know is that, I love eating them!

IMG_20170329_201014IMG_20170329_214043

This is quite an adventure for a foodie like me. Among all the Asian restaurants I’ve tried, this has got to be the most diverse, considering it’s not even a hotel!

IMG_20170329_213645IMG_20170329_225127

Overall, I loved my experience! Pink Panda is like a crossover from your favorite Asian restaurant to the fine dining one, but so much better!

Visit Pink Panda at G/F, Y2 Residence Hotel, 4687 Santiago St. Cor. B. Valdez St.
Makati 2981. You can also contact them through 0927 728 8753.

OMG. Are you excited to taste Southeast Asia?

Caught Rib Handed at RBCTY Maginhawa

I was so skinny in college I barely eat. I had this notion that eating takes up so much time that it could have been put to better use by studying instead. Fast forward to now, I can tell how fun I must be back then. It’s a wonder how I even manage to have friends! Haha 😀

IMG_20170322_185659

But seriously, I am so grateful that phase is already over. And to give truth to that, I recently had the chance to taste delectable dishes from RBCTY (Rib City), a food joint in Maginhawa Street near UP Diliman. I can imagine how college students in this area must be crashing on their diet on a constant basis!

IMG_20170322_191107IMG_20170322_191047

IMG_20170322_190049

I got into the restaurant and it’s apparent how hip the ambiance is. It felt so poppy, and everything seems so colorful! I actually took a fancy in their lego displays. I bet these should keep their clients busy as they wait for their orders.

IMG_20170322_200611IMG_20170322_200602

IMG_20170322_200831IMG_20170322_200856IMG_20170322_200923IMG_20170322_200804

IMG_20170322_191438

We were first served with Dynamite (P188). The kick of green chili peppers and cheese made this one of my favorite Dynamite recipes. I used to be so scared trying these because I am not a spicy food fan, but RBCTY’s take was mild though, and delicious! I don’t mind taking another one or two!

IMG_20170322_192450

IMG_20170322_193546We had the Not Just Nachos (P248), and the sauce and toppings were just so generous. I was blown away!

IMG_20170322_192602IMG_20170322_192836

The main star was definitely their ribs which can come in ‘Big City’ (P898) and ‘Big City Mix’ (P838). Both can serve 4 but the difference is ‘Big City’ offers additional 4 side-eats and 4 drinks, while ‘Big City Mix’ delivers additional 4 awesome wings, 4 side eats + 4 drinks.

Naturally, this won’t be called RBCTY (Rib City) without their flavorful and perfectly cooked ribs! They are tasteful, soft, and will send your tummy in its most full and actualized form.

IMG_20170322_193113

IMG_20170322_193211

We also had fun taking photos!

I suggest you starve first before going here. Perhaps not eating all day so you can eat as much as you want! Hehe 😀 Kidding! But seriously, I hope you leave enough room in your stomach so that you can eat more!

IMG_20170322_192911

Their fried chicken was extra crispy, and the pepper-ish taste was awesome! I wish they just have more gravy for all of us to share! I can be a gravy monster sometimes! 😀

We were also able to try their sweet and puffy Strawberry Shortcake Milkshake. I appreciate that it’s not that sweet because it made me want to order another one. It was evenly blended.

For me, the big surprise were the desserts! We had the opportunity to taste their 2 best-selling cakes, and they are White Toblerone (P148), Queso de Bola (P148) and Decadent Brownie a la Mode (168)  .

IMG_20170322_201245

White Toblerone was exquisite. It tasted fine and melted inside my mouth.

IMG_20170322_201215Queso De Bola was cheese with a twist. I’ve never tasted anything like it. It’s delicious!

IMG_20170322_201151

Decadent Brownie a la Mode reminded me of Ice Cream Brownies in La Marea in Cebu, and they are one of the reasons why I like dining in there. RBCTY’s version was more elaborate and generous; I just wish the brownie is warmer when served. There is just something special when you feel the fusion and variation of cold ice cream and the hot brownie inside your mouth – like yin and yang flirting with your taste buds.

IMG_20170322_200637IMG_20170322_200721

Eating in RBCTY is one of the experiences I wish I had in college. It just makes me want to go back and experience eating in restaurants near my school, or perhaps I could have eaten more back then and fed my brain better glucose! Haha 🙂

IMG_20170322_191037

But oh well, I highly recommend eating in RBCTY! The staff is super nice, the prices are affordable, not to mention they have the wittiest lines playing on their restaurant name! You could even have your photo taken and be caught rib handed! This wall is actually such a scene stealer, you wouldn’t miss it!

You may find RBCTY (Rib City) in 63Maginhawa St. UP Village, Diliman Quezon City. You may visit their website at www.rbcty.com or call them through 0917 871 4681. They operate at 11:30AM – 10:30PM daily!

Shakeaway at UP Town Center

I am so excited how months are so cooperative in flying by so fast, because that means summer is just around the corner! Yay! Time to be all sleek and sneaky with bikinis, beaches, and cold drinks! And what better way to beat the heat than drinking fresh and flavorful shakes from Shakeaway!

Last month, I got invited to try shakes and I never thought there could be so much variety in one milkshake place! Shakeaway is a London-based milkshake bar company and is the original re-inventor of milkshakes. The store started a cult following in 1999 with the first shop opening in the sunny seaside town of Bournemouth on the south coast of England.

shakeaway-98shakeaway-92shakeaway-97

The store’s interior design reminds me of mint and utterly spotless clinic. Or a fruity makeup store.  Haha It’s soo neat!

shakeaway-13shakeaway-14

What’s unique about Shakeaway is that they have a winter menu. This is made available especially during the snowy season in London, as a means to complement the cold weather. Normally, regular customers won’t order cold drinks, so to bridge the gap, Shakeaway invented hot shakes! Yes you read that right! Something new and worth trying, especially, on our closest version – the rainy season.

shakeaway-5

TOASTY TIM is their very creamy hot chocolate shake. I am not a fan of chocolate and hot drinks, not even coffee! But this one definitely changed my mind! You should try this. ASAP!
shakeaway-12shakeaway-1shakeaway-6shakeaway-8

With their intense variety on shakes, a booklike menu wasn’t opted, instead they have all laid them out on each table! Nifty and brilliant in my opinion.

shakeaway-96shakeaway-91

We were first served with MAX, it’s part of their World Famous Named Shakes. Comes in regular size for P250 and large at P310.

World Famous Named Shakes are a special menu with actual people’s names as the drinks. This is a pretty interesting idea. I wanna have HARRY! (There’s actually a Harry shake!)

Anyway, Max  is a chocolate fudge brownie shake and chocolate-filled mint candy with milk chocolate chips on top.

You can really taste the minty flavor in your tongue. This is a perfect cooling shake post workout.

shakeaway-9

The fun thing about Shakeaway is that they also have an exclusive World Famous Named Shake. It is one distinct flavored shake with the influence of the host country’s most popular ingredients, and only offered in the  Shakeaway branch of the said host country.

As for the Philippine branch, it is called JOSE, and only available in the Philippines. It is ube and macapuno with pinipig on top. This tastes very Filipino. This probably is my favorite, it is something you’ve never tasted before! I highly recommend this one! It’s so yummy, I may even finish a large cup of this!

shakeaway-3

Shakeaway has soda shakes as well! Super genius idea! This one is Sarsi shake. The milky taste was a good twist on our childhood soda.

shakeaway

IZZIE is part of the Named Frozen Yoghurts. It is a frozen yoghurt with strawberries, banana and granola. Comes in regular at P250 and large at P310. The granola made it extra fun to eat because flavors were just bursting left and right!

I just find all the named menus a bit confusing. It definitely sounds interesting, but I can hardly memorize all the names. Oh my, signs of being a Tita!

shakeaway-7

Together with my foodie friends of Team Aldous!

You can find Shakeaway at Unit C1101F Ground Floor Phase 2 UP Town Centre
Diliman. Call them at (02) 958 5841. Operating hours are between 11:00AM – 9:00PM.

So what are you waiting for, head on to Shakeaway this week afterwork or afterschool, and get ready to be blown away by the largest menu on shakes in Manila!

Have you been here? How was your experience? 😀 Let me know in the comments!

El Chapo’s Filipino Mexican Food Cartel at The Yard

Food parks have been emerging left, and right, and for some reason, we really can’t get enough of them! There is just a familiar thrill of going inside a food park and waiting to discover something gastronomically satisfying! Much similar to finding a rare shade of a nude lippie! 😀

el-chapos-the-yard-16

Team Aldous got invited to try this Filipino-Mexican food joint in the The Yard at Xavierville. I was pretty psyched because it is going to be my first time there, and back in college, I really don’t have the freedom to check out places like these! Plus, I was annoyingly underweight for the sheer lack of enthusiasm to eat. Not because I’m anorexic or weight-conscious or whatever, it’s just that I am a lazy eater. (Haha Not really proud of that past!)

el-chapos-the-yard-2

When you get inside, it is pretty easy to get lost and be lured in the variety of food wonders The Yard has to offer, but to make things more convenient for you, you can opt to try the interesting dishes at El Chapo’s!

el-chapos-the-yard-5el-chapos-the-yard-4el-chapos-the-yard-3

el-chapos-the-yard15

Nestled at the mid-left of the food park lies the palate ticklers of El Chapo’s Filipino Mexican Food Cartel.

el-chapos-the-yard-13

The name sounded different so I asked Mark Copuyoc, the owner of the joint for some enlightement. He said that it was inspired by a Mexican drug lord who heads the Sinaloa Cartel known as El Chapo. And that explains their tagline, ‘Don’t worry, it’s legal!”.

el-chapos-the-yard-17

We tried their “Chicharitos” Lechon Sisig Taco (with sour cream and salsa verde) valued at P85 per plate. It’s no wonder that this is one of their best sellers. The dish’s taste will definitely send your spirits high as it is perfect for a night of chitchat and drinks with friends.

I really find their chili detail adorable too.

el-chapos-the-yard-14

Cheesy Beef Salpicao Nachos valued at P160 per plate

I am not a fan of nachos, but this is a game changer. Their take on this is extremely flavorful, it’s a must-try!

el-chapos-the-yard-9

El Chapo’s Onion Rings (topped off with Parmesan and Sriracha) is suprising at P75 per plate. I like that theirs are not oily, and they were fried just right. I particularly like the sauce on this one.

el-chapos-the-yard-10

Fil-Mex Style Barbecued Street Corn at P60 .

I am not a fan of spicy food, so I have to say that if you are like me, have some liquids at the ready, because you’re going to need all of them. But if you are a lover of spice, I highly recommend this one. The dish will challenge your taste buds, and will probably leave nostalgia in every bite.

el-chapos-the-yard-11

Food bloggers on queue in every dish served!

Sooo thrilled to share a selfie with my very good friend Lou Ongpin!

el-chapos-the-yard-12

Team Aldous eats again!

el-chapos-the-yard-8

el-chapos-the-yard-1

Over all, El Chapo’s Filipino Mexican Food Cartel is a great choice for a weekend eat-out with friends, whether you are on a pre-dinner or some after sesh, this food wonder will definitely deliver.

Catch their flavorful dishes at The Yard, 83 Xavierville Avenue Quezon City 1108 and you may contact them via the number, 0920 983 1619 or through their social media accounts.

How Eastwood’s Soban K-Town Grill Turned Me into a Korean Food Fan

I hate spicy food. Or spicy food hates me. Either way, we don’t click together. Little did I know that Soban K-Town Grill will change all of that.

img_6081

When I learned that Team Aldous is about to dine in a Korean restaurant, I was a little nonchalant for I know this may not be for me – if only I knew how wrong I was. 😀

I was actually surprised that the restaurant was so full that Thursday night. There were people outside, waiting in queue for table availability, and I was lucky to be in a group that’s already there. Our tables were full by the time I arrived.  And was too excited, at the same time guarded, on which one to try first.

img_20161013_200256

The restaurant has a modern industrial feel to its design. The mismatched chairs sure were a delight as they connote youthfulness, adventure and excitement. There were also pans on select tables wherein you can fry and cook your own dishes. There were also exhaust shafts prodded at the ceiling to help maintain the entire room’s freshness and cool temperature.

img_6119img_6118img_6072img_6069

I must say their staff are well-trained and very accommodating. They assisted me to my table and asked me about the drinks I wanted to try, and even recommended what they think would be complementing on the menu we’ll be served that night. I am actually in awe on how much knowledge they have on the dishes. Everything seemed so foreign.

img_6050

Japchae – Stir-fried Korean Vermicelli noodles with assorted fresh vegetables

img_6057

Korean Tacos or K-Tacos – Soft tacos made with fresh lettuce, kimchi, sour cream, cheese, and your choice of K-BBQ meat (beef, pork, chicken)

img_6053img_6055

img_6091

Kimchi Rice – For not fans of spicy food, you may need an extra glass of cold water for this. Or make that a pitcher! Am I just to overreacting? Well, this was extra overwhelming for me, but despite the discomfort, I still managed to finish my bowl. Haha 🙂 It was all worth it for the spice.

img_6056

Kimchi Fries – French fries smothered with cheese, roasted pork bits and kimchi

I was shocked how I was able to tolerate the spicy taste, because they are actually good! I bet, you wouldn’t enjoy this without that extra hotness. The combination of the flavors were perfect in every way!

Radish cake

img_6064

I actually had fun cooking on our table. Considering that I am not a kitchen person, this totally allowed me to appreciate food preparation, plus that extra bonding I shared with the other bloggers as we laid our beef slices on the pan. They were extra tasty by the way, no wonder they go really well with the rice.

Soban K-Town Grill offer flavorful and succulent servings of pork (samgyupsal) and chicken (dak galbi), all for you to to cook and devour!

img_6092

Together with Mr. Sung Rah, Sariwon Korean Barbecue’s award-winning restaurateur from Seoul and the Happyfoods Group behind Sariwon Philippines, the first Soban K-Town Grill branch was finally brought to the Philippine shores. The owners-slash-sisters of the restaurant were present and were sweet enough for a little chitchat. It turns out that this is their third food joint in Manila, following their successful fleet on Sariwon Korean Barbecue. I really admire women entrepreneours. Everything about them just speaks about jeering strategy, independence, empowerment and innovation.

(From L to R: Dorothy Tan-Dee, Donna Tan-Ng, Me!, Diana Tan-David)

Travelling in Seoul, South Korea and their love for Korean food inspired them to open this wonderful food joint, hoping to share these delectable and gastronomic food fare with the rest who share the same sentiment, and hopefully encounter converts along the way. I must say that I am one of those who were along the way.

Mine says, THE VOLATILE VIXEN. How sexy can you get? Haha 😀

img_6114

PINAC-athebest: Stranger to Campampangan Food No More

You know what’s the best gift after a hard day’s work? Well, aside from a new pair of shoes, a treat to a hefty dinner doesn’s sound so bad either, especially when the food is made out of passion and love.

I was invited to try Pinác Heirloom Capampangan Cuisine, and I must say the experience was enlightening, nostalgic and gustatory. Located at the 2/F of U.P. Town Center, Katipunan Ave, Loyola Heights, Quezon City, beside S&R, I never thought I would feel like a grand daughter to a grandmom I never had.

Pinác is the  Kampampangan word for swamp. It took it’s inspiration from the farmlife in Candaba, Pampanga. If you happen to visit the town, the Candaba swamp is a popular waterbody, and is known to serve as a catch basin of the waters from the Sierra Madre Mountain Range. This makes the soil of the farms very fertile, providing good harvest for those whose main livelhood is farming.

I know I have distant relatives from Pampanga, that is why I felt more excited about the food that I will be served that night. I often hear how Pampanguenos are such amazing cooks.

I got inside, and was greeted with a fusion of modern and traditional architecture. My shot is a little brighter than usual, but the lighting inside sure was reminiscent of that homey feel of a big old house.. with the twist of course! Owner, Ms. Angel Pelayo-Ty said, “When our guests enter our restaurant, we want them to feel that they just stepped into a home in Candaba.” She then made it a point that it had to be something both the young and old can relate to, that is why she wanted the restaurant to be hybrid of what’s contemporary and vintage.

20160921_191057_hdr

I arrived the earliest, that is why I got to photograph ahead of time!

I particularly love the this wall mural, because it is very artsy and posh at the same time!

20160921_191852_hdr

Sooner, I met Thin, one of the bloggers I will be dining with that night, and of course the manager of Pinac.

20160921_191938_hdr

I got Cucumber Mint Dalandan as my welcome drinks, and I have to say it’s one of the best Cucumber concoctions I’ve ever tasted. I have tried other Cucumber drinks such as the one in Shakey’s, in one resto in Maginhawa and in Sugbu Mercado in Cebu, but by far this one is the best. I love how refreshing and flavorful this one is. I think adding Dalandan made it more mouth-watering.

We were then served with the following dishes:

Sisig Pizza – It was a surprising take on the usual barkada’s or solos’ ultimate celebratory food, and it doesn’t disappoint either! Not being a fan of spicy food, I must say that I was able to handle its trickle of spice. Pinác’s Sisig Pizza is every foodie’s must-try!

Baked Scallops – OMG! This is MY favorite food ever! There was a week in Cebu when all my lunches and dinners were all either baked oysters, mussels or scallops. Because I can eat these forever! That is why my standards were very high with this one! So, I like how they were able to keep the butter and lemon in sync, but I wished the cheese was tastier to balance the other ingredients. But this  is  still a very good recipe.

20160921_195343_hdr

Crispy Hito Balls, Buro at Mustasa – I was pretty impressed with this dish. It was like an innovation with how you eat fish.  Catfish meat were rolled into a balls, dipped to seasonings and then fried. I enjoyed eating it too! The idea is you put the fish inside the mustasa (vegetable in the photo), and then dip into the fermented sauce. The taste was wonderful, same as how fancy it was to eat. 🙂

Binagoongang Lechon Kawali – This is already a meal in itself and is very heavy in the stomach. All ingredients are very flavorful. I  was surprised how I devoured in this dish for about 3 times. I guess I really liked it.Haha Maybe it’s an understatement.  I also think it is a good deal because it can be shared by at least 3 people. 🙂

I was lucky to snap a photo with Ms Angel before she left the restaurant. I was like a thankful niece bidding goodbye to an aunt who was able to immortalize a family legacy though innovation of food preparation and passion for cooking.

Again, dining with Pinác was like a homecoming to a place and family I never had.

I highly recommend Pinác for family dinners, barkada get-togethers, dates, and even spontaneous food trips!

7 Reasons Why 7 Flavors Buffet and A La Carte is FooDIE For

Filipino families have always loved dining together. I remember back in the day; my family would not start eating until everybody’s already home. Although we are not a particularly large family, I believe this practice is present in almost every Pinoy household. We enjoy talking about what happened in each other’s day, while eating our favorite dishes that are either prepared by the resident chef, grandma, or mom.

It may not look like it, but I really am fond of food. On regular days at work, I eat an average of about two cups of rice, per meal, simply because – I can! Haha  I believe that one cannot be both hungry and tired at the same. I mean, we need food! Food is fuel! We need to think, especially when you have a job that requires you to talk for 8 hours daily, not to mention in front of an audience!

You could imagine my joy when I found it most opportune to visit the up and coming buffet restaurant at the heart of San Juan City, that is 7 Flavors Buffet and A la Carte!

Nestled in the streets amidst commercial and residential establishments, this sprightly fusion of a café, buffet and bakery sits magnificently, offering its customers treats that will surely satisfy their gastronomic cravings. Here are 7 reasons on why you should visit them today!

  1. World-renowned Chef Boy Logro

Processed with VSCO with hb1 presetI believe this first reason is enough already! Chef Boy Logro, is a Filipino celebrity chef known for his cooking shows, Idol sa Kusina and Chef Boy Logro: Kusina Master. He has been commended in his talent and skill in creating mouth-watering recipes. He also received inspiring recognitions both local and abroad. It is very satiating to know that he has pioneered a restaurant that will bring us joy and appease our churning stomachs, empty enough to eat as much as we want! It’s a buffet after all!

  1. Generous Parking Area

Processed with VSCO

I don’t drive, but I believe this is such a cherry, because this means more foodies can be accommodated by the restaurant. It is really a downer whenever good food places lack basic car space. I’m sure my dad would love to go here soon, since unstinting parking is such a big plus.

  1. Café + Buffet + Bakery in One!

What could go wrong? If this was a department store, this could be SM! I mean they got it all for you! Whatever your mood or cravings might be, 7 Flavors sure has something in store for you. It’s like a one-stop-shop for everyone who may want to eat! Or those who may be forced mid-inquiry! 😀

  1. Architecture and Design

Now this is a big bomb. Working in real estate for quite some time has allowed me to be more discerning and meticulous when it comes to aesthetics, exterior features, proper lighting, color, space, establishment orientation, furniture choice, interior design details, mood, etc. And quite frankly I’m impressed!

The outdoor façade already gave the idea that the ambiance of the place is one of its strong points. I specifically adore the lush greenery and its glowing accent in the restaurant’s portico.

It suggested an air that 7 Flavors Buffet and A la Carte is indeed a place where you can celebrate your life’s most treasured moments. Little did I know that my impression was true! You can actually book an event and hold it here!

This collective photo reminded me of old family wall accessories in ancestral houses or museums. Very homey, and stable. The lighting injected an attitude of a more contemporary design though, which I think is an attempt to go in between of the restaurant’s diverse market.

  1. More Space for Events

I was also greeted by posh yet funky interiors inside. The first floor held the A la Carte space for diners. I have learned that this area can also be used for venues for occasions and celebrations.

Upstairs is where the magic begins, well at least for the night we went there. The A la Carte area was deserted that time. Probably because it was a Friday night, and more people are hungrier than usual! Haha Like me!

  1. Distinct Taste of Recipes and Dishes

It is called the 7 Flavors Buffet and A la Carte because it highlights the 7 stunning flavors of – sweet, sour, salty, bitter, spicy, umami, and astringent. Astringent is that discrete flavor of dryness that you generally taste after tasting tea, wine, or the outer rinds of fruits and treats.

According to modern nutrition practices inspired by Ayurveda (system of medicine that originated in India), the body’s response to proper nutrition is guided by the sense of taste. Brimming that this is true, it’s more than another reason to excessively satisfy our palates with nothing but good taste from good food.

What I like about their food is that, it tastes natural and healthy. I’m not sure if there is a way on how taste buds detect that, but I notice that they are not the oily kind. Considering that I am referring to the steak. It was perfectly concocted in my opinion. Not to mention that I was pretty hesitant in trying it because I just had my braces adjusted that week. I was having a difficult time chewing anything other than super soft food, which is basically most viands. But to my great surprise, it was soft and easy to chew. I almost forgot it was beef!

I also liked the taco shells! They were amazingly soft! Kind of perfect for people who have painful tools for mastication like mine!

The flavors just kept bursting inside my mouth. I kind of remembered the blissful feeling the chef rat Remy in the Ratatouille Movie made it seem.

  1. Reasonably Priced Menu

In comparison to existing buffet restaurants, Chef Logro’s 7 Flavors Buffet and A la Carte are reasonably priced. I can say that they are undoubtedly affordable because you get so much from what you pay for. You really are going to get your money’s worth!

My experience was deliciously wonderful! I am definitely coming back! Thank you Aldous for inviting us!

This is going to be an exciting break and a great venue to veer away from your usual buffet dinner outs! Aside from family bonding, I also recommend this for a group of friends’ weekend hangout, or a date maybe! Haha Because that’s what I did! Great food at a price that won’t burn holes in your pockets! If you’re a foodie, you should definitely go! It’s fooDIE for! 😀

There will always be Room for Dessert

Travels, either for leisure or work should always be devoured with curiosity, awe and with whatever way possible. So to speak, that is what this post is all about.

I am in Cebu right now for a work-travel (thank you Empire East for the unwavering trust, confidence in training, and free tickets to access the best eat-outs in Cebu 😘 ). So since I am already here, there is no way I won’t try the latest craze the city has been blessed to experience ever since Room for Dessert started its operations earlier this year.

The ice cream in a cotton candy photo has been circling the social media for the past weeks. I saw the gem in a Facebook Page called Discover MNL , only to find out that it wasn’t in Manila! Golly! That’s why when I heard I was made to go here in Cebu, I made a mental note to visit Room for Dessert as part of my itinerary after work.

RM’s ice cream cotton candy dessert deflated a little bit though. 😞 I highly suggest that you take a photo of it as soon as it is served. You don’t want a non-fluffy cotton candy, doyou? 😄

image

image

My Juliana’s Cookie Madness was delightful! I had a great time eating it. I feel like Vanellope Von Schweetz of Sugar Rush. Not to mention it only costs 69PhP! Woah! Yes I heard you, what a deal!

image

You can choose your ice cream to be placed either in a cone (59PhP) or a cup (69PhP). Neatly priced, aren’t they? The ice cream lady advised that having it in a cup is less messier and more convenient, so that’s what I got. 😀

BUNK : A Bang for the Buck Bar in Shaw Blvd., Mandaluyong City

After long hurls and swirls I’m back on track!

So here is a post about a bar my friends and I went to yesternight! 😃 ( I can’t believe I’m posting in less than 24 hours! I feel so sipag! 😝)

It was literally the end of the month, a payday Friday too, so you can imagine how furious the traffic can be! Goodie, I was able to book a GrabSedan and it only took me 30 minutes to get there!

It was a bit confusing when I alighted the vehicle. I was on the groundfloor, and all I know is that it is located in the 8th floor of a building, but I’m not so sure which one is it. Good thing, I was able to ask for directions. It was a shabby infrastructure, although I wasn’t able to take a photo. Haha 😀 But it can easily be found, as it is just the tower right across the main PCSO office.

Much to my dismay, the elevator was under repair. So, really. 😳 But, this is not a time to rant, but rather an opportunity for exercise! Haha 😅 So with my frail legs, I braved up seven flights of stairs to reach Bunk. But in my mind, I kept repeating, “This better be worth it!”

image

My thin-gasping-for-air self was greeted by this Bunk sign. It gave me a very underground vibe. Haha And that, should not be taken literally! 😄

image

This gorgeous and too-urban-for-a-life wall is an electrifying add-on for every blogger-pose in mind. And uploading it as a coverphoto wouldn’t be so bad either.

image

image

image

Oooooh. So this the breathtaking city view everybody is talking about! Haha Not to mention the sparkly lights of Empire East ‘s California Garden Square. *Incessant plugging* Haha 🙂

But seriously, the Mandaluyong skyline is every Millennial group’s perfect accessory to accentuate a night filled with booze, good music and wonderful conversations.

image

image

image

We ordered Burgers, Nachos, Tofu and Pork Combo, and Fritters. They were delectable and fairly priced. Their dishes just range between 200PhP to 300PhP.

While drinks play within 40PhP to 100+PhP.

image

Bunk Bar actually has two areas, you can either choose from the one that has a roof, or the one that has none. It was pretty impressive how full it was, considering that it was just 8:30PM; to think that the elevator is broken.

What kind of sorcery is this?

image

It also rained earlier that evening, that is why the glowing tables were taken off. These people really had to stand, and wait for the floors to dry to be seated.

image

When the grounds went parched, these homey woven-mats were laid and lighted tables set-up. This looks very comforting and more relaxing.

image

We came in earlier than the others so we had the regular tables. If I had known, I would’ve arrived later than usual. Haha 😄 So this is the view of a jealous me, amidst this happy throng. Well, next time!

image

It is an amazing sight. Friends drinking the night away with the sky full of stars, what more could you ask for? What a delightful way to cap a hectic week!

image

Thank you so much Bunk for having us. It was a gripping night full of wonders and ecstatic plans about life and random things. We’re sure going to be back and try those mats and bean bags! I highly recommend this place for anyone who wants a breath of fresh air (literally and figuratively) from their monotonous Friday nights!

image

For those who would like to gape at the stars whilst drowning to tasteful treats, you can visit BUNK at Jovan Bldg. 8th floor, Brgy. Highway Hills, Shaw Blvd. Mandaluyong City

See you around!
